As this title (though not the cover) makes clear, this is a festschrift for Walter J. Ong SJ. With varying degrees of allegiance, from apocalyptic dogmatism and lament to measured consideration and a hint of criticism, almost all of the contributors could be said to be disciples of Ong. One way of approaching this collection as a whole, then, is via a description, albeit simplified, of Ongianism.
