Micro-economic reform through managerialism in American and Australian universities

Currie, J. and Vidovich, L. (1998) Micro-economic reform through managerialism in American and Australian universities. In: Currie, J. and Newsome, J., (eds.) Universities and globalization: Critical perspectives. Sage publications, Inc, Thousand Oaks, California, pp. 153-172.

Abstract

Whether it is described as micromanaging, microeconomic reform, or increasing managerialism, there is a definite feeling among academics that both external agencies (government departments, legislators, and politicians) and managers internal to their universities are shifting the balance of power and autonomy away from academics.
