Abstract

Australian states, through their education departments, have traditionally produced centralised, prescriptive curricula, consisting mainly of a series of topics to be studied. More recently, curriculum documents have become less prescriptive: broad guidelines are provided, together with some suggestions for implementing the curriculum. In addition, curriculum writers have placed an increased emphasis on affective domain objectives relative to cognitive domain objectives, particularly in science education.
