Abstract

Mobile phone technology has demonstrated the potential to improve health service delivery in developing countries and as a result, mobile phone technology is increasingly viewed as a promising communication channel that offers the potential to improve health care delivery and promote behaviour change among vulnerable populations. Despite the strong demonstrable and positive impacts of mobile health on clinical outcomes, the acceptance and usage of mobile phones for maternal healthcare is limited. The aim of this study is to develop a model for the acceptance and usage of mobile phones in maternal healthcare. Using literature review, a pilot study, a survey and the Task Technology Fit by Goodhue and Thompson (1995) as a guiding framework, the study will develop a model for the acceptance and usage of mobile phones in maternal healthcare. The data will be analysed and the results will be used to extend existing Task Technology Fit model. A final survey will be conducted to evaluate the model.
