WISALTS column

(1988) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 26 May 1988. p. 6 [Publication] [Special Collections]

In recent years, unusually large falls of rain in relatively short periods of time in many parts of the State have given many farmers the chance to look at any water control measures in place on their properties, WISALTS interceptor banks or other drainage, seepage, absorption or pumping installations. Control of water is most important to prevent waterlogging, erosion and associated problems. Representations have been made to the Treasurer, Paul Keating, to change the water conservation deductibility from the current three years, to be deductible in the year of expenditure as a way of encouraging famers to conserve one of our important commodities.
