WISALTS column

(1988) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 21 July 1988. p. 8 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Professor John Burton, president of the Soil and Water Conservation Association of Australia, says there is an urgent need for more effective communication designed specifically to get the results of soil and water research into the hands of Australia's landholders and land managers. The Association is taking one step towards solving this national communication problem including the publication of a national journal of soil and water conservation with the first issue planned for November this year. WISALTS president Pam McGregor also welcomed the release of a discussion paper on salinity, and indicated the contents of the paper and the twenty-six recommendations would be thoroughly read and assessed by the organisation's committee and consultants with comments forwarded to the committee. In its submission to the select committee, WISALTS stressed that the causes of salinity must be treated for long-term and long-lasting benefits.
