Grim salt scenario in south

(1988) Grim salt scenario in south. The Wet Australian, 1988. [Publication] [Special Collections]

About 80 per cent of the North Stirling district may be rendered salt affected within 20 years. This estimate from an Agriculture Department report was tabled in State Parliament by the select committee investigating Western Australia's growing salinity problems. The report indicated North Stirling was one of the worst affected districts in the Great Southern. Many regions of Western Australia have similar problems, in varying degrees. The select committee has recommended an independent salinity control board be formed to ensure a well defined focus for salinity control.
