WAFF blessing on CBH

O'Connor, P. (1988) WAFF blessing on CBH. Elders Weekly, 5 May 1988. p. 6 [Publication] [Special Collections]

The West Australian Farmers Federation (WAFF) supports the retention of Co-operative Bulk Handling's (CBH) sole rights for grain handling and storage. A motion to reject any proposition that CBH's sole rights be removed was passed last week by WAFF delegates attending a special conference of the grains section in Perth. A desire to be loyal to CBH and a fear that competition would reduce the quality of service and escalate the cost to growers in remote areas were the reasons cited by delegates who spoke in favour of a motion to reject any proposition that CBH's sole rights be removed. There continue to be both disadvantages and advantages in the removal of sole rights. The vote was taken after recommendations of the Royal Commission into Grain Handling, Storage and Transport were explained by Jim McColl, who helped conduct the commission investigation.
