WISALTS column - Plan for the long term

(1988) WISALTS column - Plan for the long term. Elders Weekly, 27 October 1988. p. 7 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

No farm plan is ever final, and not all first ideas will be best. Show your plan to neighbours and friends, and seek advice on different aspects of the plan from agricultural advisors, soil conservationists and forecasters to get a broad range of comments. Check that your accountant is up to date with the tax deductibility of land degradation controls works. Preparation of the farm plan should take time over wet and dry seasons, also try to involve family members and others who help to run the farm. A brochure titled "Whole Farm Planning" prepared by Andrew Campbell, Project Manager of the Potter Farmland Plan in Victoria, and funded by the National Tree Programme and the Victoria Garden State Committee, provides advice for preparing the farm plans.
