Ron backs whole farm approach

Wansbrough, J. (1988) Ron backs whole farm approach. The Countryman, 22 September 1988. p. 34 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Ron Watkins states that Australia is not the only nation with soil degradation and environmental problems but it does have special advantages to help it find the solutions. Having recently returned from an overseas Churchill Fellowship Tour, Mr Watkins studied the approach to environmental problems, agroforestry, integrated whole farm planning and water management in New Zealand, the United Stated, the United Kingdom, Israel and the Netherlands. He spoke at the Land Management Society's annual general meeting, describing what he had seen in the different countries and the implications he believed it had for Western Australia. After seeing different nations' approaches to soil degradation and environmental problems, Mr Watkins said that Australia had a "magnificent opportunity" to show what could be done with the environment.
