Summary
The Soil Management for Sustainable Agriculture public seminar was opened at the end of last month by Julian Grill, the Minister for Agriculture. Mr Grill said that conserving soil is the most important conservation issue facing Australia today, trees and forests can be cut down and regrown, but the same wasn't true for soils, which once gone are gone forever. Mr Grill also pointed out that there was increasing awareness of the fragility of our soils and the importance of their management. The Minister's opening remarks set the scene for the day, with a number of guest speakers addressing the attendees.
