Not enough being done about salinity

(1987) Not enough being done about salinity. The Gnowangerup Star, 3 December 1987. p. 1 [Publication] [Special Collections]

South Province MLC, David Wordsworth has called for a Parliamentary Select Committee to be set up to inquiry into and report on salinity in Western Australia. Mr Wordsworth said not enough is being done to assess the scope and magnitude of the problem and not enough money is being set aside for it, there are a number of very strong groups in Western Australia who are endeavouring to play their part in controlling salt, with probably the strongest being WISALTS. Another group is the Land Management Foundation working out of Frankland and is developing its own contour banks. The State rewrote the Soil and Land Conservation Act several years ago and at Mr Wordsworth's instigation, the legislation included provisions for areas to be declared soil conservation districts.
