Inventiveness wins

Summary
The West Australian Farm Inventor of the Year Award was won by Frank Belfield and Alan Bowman of Mount Barker. Their invention, the Bowfield Saltdrainer, breaks new ground in the rejuvenation of degraded soil. Winning the Rural and Industries Bank-Western Farmer sponsored award has enabled Mr Bowden and Mr Belfield to compete in the National Field Days in Orange, New South Wales. Mr Bowden said after constructing in excess of 100 kilometres of interceptor banks in Western Australia and encountering dozens of sand seams discharging water, they realised that sand was a natural material to form a permanent water vein.
