The Federal Government has announced the approval of $73,050 as funding for four separate conservation programmes throughout Western Australia. In the largest programme, $30,600 has been granted for a land resource inventory and land capability assessment in the Geraldton region. The Agriculture Department will be responsible for the collection and interpretation of land resource data for the State Planning Commission. The Geraldton, Chapman Valley, Greenough, Irwin, Mingenew, Mullewa, Morawa and Northampton shires (which represent 2.2 million hectares), will be mapped in the course of the project. A second project, a soil conservation extension programme in the Avon Valley region, has had a $17,750 grant approved. other grant approvals include $15,100 worth of funds detained for the development of a catchment plan in the East Ballidu area.
