WISALTS column

(1986) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 22 May 1986. p. 7 [Publication] [Special Collections]

A 7 week farm planning course has been trialled in the Denbarker Soil Conservation District. The Department of Agriculture officers involved are considering the evaluation and assessment forms completed by the farmers from seventeen properties involved in the course. Farm planning is extremely important, perhaps even more these days when margins are becoming tighter. The farmers involved in the course found it of value. The sessions were titled: Introduction and aerial photography; landscape identification and assessment; siting of structures and planning for shelter; agronomic aspects, including pastures, degradation and drainage; farm visit and preparation of the farm plan. The Albany office of the Department of Agriculture have indicated that they would be prepared to run another farm planning course for a group of 10 or more farmers, and other office of the Department may be able to organise similar courses in their areas.
