Summary

The ecological concern of farmers in Fitzgerald which will be marked by a conference in March on the interaction of a local national park, native vegetation and surrounding wheat and grazing land. The conference lead by farmers, along with a number of city-based conservationists, will contribute to UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme. The aim of the conference will be to plan a research and education programme. The key speaker will be Professor George Seddon, Dean of Architecture and Planning, and Director of the School of Environmental Planning at the University of Melbourne. The conference will focus on the Fitzgerald River National Park and surrounding country. The region is about 300 kilometres south-east of Perth and is one of 12 Australian sites that have been accepted by Unesco as biosphere reserves.
