Summary

Pam McGregor is a busy Mount Barker farmer's wife, mother of two active sons and a cheerful volunteer for anything which needs a bit of local impetus. Mrs McGregor achieved a significant first in 1986 with her election as the only woman president of WISALTS, the organisation which has followed up the early and continuing work of Harry Whittington. WISALTS is an important organisation for the agricultural well-being of this state, where even our vast acreages are finite, where salt scalds have left their ugly blemishes across an ever increasing area. Pam and her husband Jim investigated the WISALTS programme, deciding in 1978 to install the first of what was to become 21 kilometres of interceptor banks. The best possible example of the success of the interceptor bank system is the slow reversal of the salt problem on their property. WISALTS banks are unquestionably good for the country, which is why Pam McGregor is proud to serve that organisation, prouder still to be elected its head.
