WISALTS column

(1986) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 2 January 1986. p. 4 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

WISALTS hopes that 1986 will turn out to be that "best year ever" for all its column readers - and for farmers in general throughout Australia. What is your outstanding farming memory for 1985? The answers will not only vary from farmer to farmer, but from area to area: the late break, the early rain, the late rain, the lack of rain, the poor crops, the frost, the thunderstorms, the possibility of capital gains tax, the continual drift from the country to the urban and metropolitan centres. Many factors affecting farming productivity and future are factors over which the farmer has limited control including water control, protection from wind, the insurance of a full hay shed, and keeping stock at a safe level, while taking precautions to minimise some of the effects of weather particularly some of the extremes of weather.
