In an innovative approach, the Wickepin Soil Conservation District is to employ and train a soil conservation assistant who will be available to local farmers. The trainee will spend four months working with the Department of Agriculture's Narrogin district office from February next year and will be trained to prepare soil conservation farm plans, to survey contour banks, seepage interceptors, w-drains and roaded catchments. Funding of $7,300 has been provided by the National Soil Conservation Programme.
