Council gives other side of mulesing

(1986) Council gives other side of mulesing. Elders Weekly, 16 January 1986. p. 3 [Publication] [Special Collections]

The President of the Wool Council of Australia, Neville Gorman, has warned woolgrowers to watch for fly strike in their sheep. He said recent warm, wet weather had created conditions which were very favourable for the rapid spread of fly strike. The recent deaths of hundreds of badly flyblown sheep in Victoria's Western District illustrated the need to be particularly watchful at present. Improvements in preventative measures and sheep husbandry practices have considerably reduced deaths and losses from fly strike. While mulesing has been a successful preventative measure, considerable research is being carried out to find more effective control measures for the fly.
