WISALTS column
(1986) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 18 December 1986. p. 12 [Publication] [Special Collections]
Summary
Some six weeks ago, the column mentioned EIS's - Environmental Impact Statements - and the fact that one draft EIS was to be released in Western Australia on a proposal by McLean's Sawmills in Denmark to export woodchips from Albany. Two volumes, comprising the draft EIS and the Environmental Review and Management Programme were released for public scrutiny and comment late last month. There are nearly 600 pages of content: 286 pages in the review, programme and statement and 311 pages in the appendices volume. By law, a draft EIS has to be available for at least 28 days for comment. A revised document, the final EIS, taking account of public comment, is then examined by the Commonwealth Department and the Minister can make any appropriate recommendations.
