(1985) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 2 May 1985. p. 12 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

WISALTS column discusses a quote from Thor Heyerdahl who said at a press conference in the mid 1970s, "There will not be another generation of man if the pollution problem is not corrected. The ocean is like a circulating river". The article discusses scientists and governments from the world over are concerned with finding the solutions to dealing with pollution in the oceans, waterways and water storage areas. Interceptor banks can end up with dust, manure and fertiliser in them, with silting and loss of nutrients an issue, however the banks are placed at intervals down its slopes which slows the movement of fertilisers.
