Govt to merge land agencies

(1984) Govt to merge land agencies. The West Australian, 13 February 1984. p. 4 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

The State Government is adopting far-reaching proposals for a major restructuring of land management throughout the State. The amalgamation of the three government agencies will form a single Department of Natural Land Management and four other agencies are likely to be included later. A Land Resource Policy Council will be formed to co-ordinate policy on land use and management. The Premier Brian Burke said that the decisions were probably the most important series on land use and management since the State's settlement. The States' productive land and the industries based on it, will be protected, directing greater resources to the conservation of natural areas and ensure that the recreational needs of West Australians were properly met. The report from the task force stems from a study of more than 1120 submissions on proposals contained in an interim report released in November.
