WISALTS

Hotchkin, P. (1984) WISALTS. Elders Weekly, 1 March 1984. p. 82 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

A course was held in the Kellerberrin-Tammin area, attended by 20 farmers from Western Australian and interstate, to learn how to put the Whittington Interceptor Bank System into use. Conducted by WISALTS, the course showed the farmers how to use, care and maintain the surveyor's automatic levels which are used in planning the interceptor system. Over the week, farmers had to assess the condition of the soil and determine the water absorption rate, also, they had to see if there was water harvesting potential and the need to work in with the natural features of the landscape. Co-ordinator for the WISALTS course, James Gardner, explained the benefits of the interceptor system and results meant the prevention of salinity on the land and therefore increased productivity.
