Boffins get a blast

(1984) Boffins get a blast. The West Australian, 5 March 1984. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

The Minister for Science and Technology, Mr Jones has criticised Australian scientists for being extraordinarily silent on issues affecting their country's futures. Alan Jones addressed graduating science students at the University of Sydney, stating that universities and the scientific community have taken a profile so low as to be indistinguishable from the horizon. Mr Jones said that scientists and engineers were rare in Australian parliaments and preferred to "beaver away at their expertise".
