Summary

An international seminar titled, "Forage and fuel production from salt-affected wasteland", is to be held at Cunderdin from 19 May to 27 May. The seminar has been organised by the Department of Agriculture for the Australian Development Assistance Bureau, will be held over eight days and has attracted an international list of speakers who will deal with all aspects of forage and fuel production on salt-affected soils. Clive Malcolm, senior research officer with the Department of Agriculture's resource management division, said the seminar was aimed at promoting revegetation of salt-affected wasteland for forage and fuel production, and for restoring the environment. The opening address will be delivered by Land and Water Development Division of the Food and Agriculture Organisation representative, M. Purnell, and R. Perry representing the CSIRO, will be the general chairman of the seminar. Salt-affected field and test sites in the Kellerberrin, Cunderdin, Dowerin and Wongan Hills areas, and a catchment project at Maya will be visited.
