(1984) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 12 April 1984. p. 6 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

The Wickepin branch tour of five different properties in the Wickepin-Yealering district was a really worthwhile day for the busload of people involved. Hosted by President Peter Woodward and secretary Kathleen Matthews, the tour which visited properties with WISALTS systems and one which was experimenting with other water control methods. This one exception was on the Elsegoods' property, farmed by brothers Brian and Trevor, where a variety of control methods are being trialled in a 20 hectare paddock. Nearly 10 years ago, the paddock yielded 34 bushels per acre of wheat, and although there was little salt, the situation has gradually worsened. Various experiments have been undertaken with disappointing results, but were very valuable for finding out the worth of the various drainage ideas in that particular area.
