Collie saltland field day soon

(1984) Collie saltland field day soon. The Farmers Weekly, 4 April 1984. p. 11 [Publication] [Special Collections]

The Land Management Society's first major field day to be held on Thursday 12 April. Salt land treatments on one of the first clearing ban areas in the Collie River catchment will be inspected. Opportunities for field day attendees to see several sites at Batalling Creek - a central point of interest when clearing bans were introduced in an attempt to stop stream salinity increases in the catchment. The area that visitors are expected to be most interested in is the interceptor bank installation and where water quality and stream flow is monitored by the Public Works Department. Organisers for the field day hope that visitors will be able to see a new drain digging machine at work producing open drains up to 1.5 metres deep. Local farmers as well as local representatives of the Department of Agriculture, Public Works Department, CSIRO, Forests Department and WISALTS will be present to discuss the treatments inspected during the field day.
