Winds highlight research need - LMS

(1984) Winds highlight research need - LMS. Elders Weekly, 10 May 1984. p. 9 [Publication] [Special Collections]

There are concerns about strong winds preceding rains and causing severe erosion in many farming areas of the state, needing an urgent research programme on stubble handling according to Land Management Society vice-president Keith Davis of Borden. The Society appealed to farmers earlier this year to try to avoid stubble burning or at least delay it until later in the season. Mr Davis said that if multiple cropping was to remain part of the farming system on soils liable to wind erosion, research was essential to find a stubble handling system that did not leave the soil bare at critical times of the season.
