WISALTS column

(1984) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 24 May 1984. p. 8 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

WISALTS column discusses the surveyors' course and the refresher course and the value for each participant. The surveyors who have attended the courses can understand changes in vegetation whether it is natural, crop or pasture, understanding the seepage spot above the salt scald which stays greener longer than the rest of the paddock, finding the explanation for getting bogged away from the scald, but not in it. The need for refresher courses allows the surveyor to identify and relate the problem to another farmer or interested person in a logical manner. The surveyor will be able to assist the dozer operator in the construction of the banks, be able to see means in improving the dozer operators technique if it is required, and be familiar with the use of a backhoe and the advantage of cost savings they can bring in certain situations.
