Farm groups in need of support

Bain, J. (2009) Farm groups in need of support. The Countryman, 15 January 2009. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

John Bain of Bunbury shares his view of the problem with rural industry associations is that the efforts of a dedicated few rarely have the clout to turn political heads and have their concerns heard.
Mr. Bain says that politicians will always say that they are listening, safe in the knowledge that farming is a minority business, and farmers are too busy hanging on to join the National Farmers Federation or the Pastoralists and Graziers Association.
Any organisation nationwide suffers from the same problem, people are not interested any more.
The future of the industry is subsequently left to a devoted few trying to make common ground in what has become a voice in the wilderness.
