Sydney warned off poisonous Hawkesbury

Totaro, P. (1993) Sydney warned off poisonous Hawkesbury. The Sydney Morning Herald, 5 August 1993. p. 1 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Sydneysiders have been officially warned to avoid drinking, bathing in, or irrigating crops with water from the Lower Hawkesbury River between Sackville and Lower Portland until further notice. The warning was issued by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), acting on behalf of the algal co-ordinating committee, following the outbreak of a toxic blue-green algal bloom. Signposts along the affected sections of the river and letters to all property owners in the area will advise of the warning.
