Support for WISALTS

MacGregor, P. (1988) Support for WISALTS. The Farmers Weekly, 10 February 1988. p. 4 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Letters to the editor feature submitted by Pam MacGregor of Denbarker.
Pam MacGregor addresses an article by Mr. Tim Negus of the effectiveness of shallow drains and interceptor banks.
It is noted that the five sites identified as WISALTS were not planned and surveyed by WISALTS trained surveyors.
The other six sites were Department of Agriculture sites.
Pam MacGregor notes that while Mr. Negus' observation may be accurate on what has happened on those specific sites, everyone who is familiar with WISALTS progress over the years will appreciate that great progress has been made in defining recharge areas and treating these recharge systems.
The article from Mr. Negus does not acknowledge the fact that results have been dramatic, when one considers the extent of degradation in the State and some of the solutions being advocated.
