The plant variety rights is nothing new, says Mr. Alex Martin of "Illangi", Benalla.
Mr. Martin explains the European Plant Varieties and Seed Act of 1964 as amended by the European Communities Act of 1972.
Under the Seeds (National List of Varieties) Regulations which came into force on July 1, 1973, it is an offence, punishable with a fine of 400 pounds, to sell or even catalogue vegetable varieties not on the National or EEC lists.
Mr. Martin gives a scenario of the path some varieties of seed must travel to be approved.
