Battling for Australia's best asset - land

Catalano, A. Battling for Australia's best asset - land. The West Australian, [Publication] [Special Collections]

Earth Week feature article discusses the views of a Merriwa farmer, Ted Shannon who has been battling for the environment for most of his 81 years.
Mr. Shannon is an inaugural member of his area's Landcare Group and believes the soil he works is Australia's best asset.
Much of the Landcare group work is carried out by farmers who draw up protection plans for their areas, studying soil types, water flows, contours, trees and prevent soil erosion.
Landcare Australia's chairman, Jim Kirk said his organisations mission is to raise public awareness and promote better land use.
