Catchment farmers affected by new water bill

(1976) Catchment farmers affected by new water bill. The Farmers Weekly, 14 October 1976. p. 4 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Article explains about 190 farmers whose properties fall at least partly within the boundaries of the catchment area of the Wellington Dam may have to abide by controls on land clearing under the provisions of a bill that has been passed by the State Parliament.
The Country Areas Water Supply Act Amendment Act 1976 which amends the Country Areas Water Supply Act 1947-1974 was passed by the Legislative Council and by the Legislative Assembly recently.
The Act will affect nearly 70 farmers who have properties of less than 20 acres within the catchment area.
One of the main provisions of this Act is that farmers must apply for a licence to clear the land.
The Under Secretary may then grant, renew or transfer any such licence or refuse it.

This article contains three portraits of Farmers' Union representatives, Senior vice-president, Mr. Harry Whittington; Junior vice-president, Mr. E. Skinner; and Executive officer, Mr. G. Sieber.
