(1976) No State move to divert water from South West. The Farmers Weekly, 19 August 1976. [Publication] [Special Collections]
Summary
Water feature article explains that there is no move either by the Public Works Department or any other State Government department or instrumentality to divert south west irrigation water from farms to the metropolitan area for industrial or commercial use.
This assurance was given to Farmers' Union senior vice president, Mr. Harry Whittington by Mr. Vic Ferry, MLC.
Mr. Whittington had spoken about discussions on the future use of water from the irrigation scheme when he addressed a group of dairy farmers at Harvey during the Wholemilk Zone Council meeting.
Mr. Whittington's remarks evoked a statement on television from the Minister for Works, Mr. O'Neil, and a letter to him from Mr. Ferry.
This article contains three images, one view of a dam; one portrait of Minister for Works, Mr. O'Neil; and one portrait of Mr. Whittington.
