Old sees farmer's work

(1977) Old sees farmer's work. The Countryman, 19 May 1977. p. 5 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Article discusses Brookton farmer Harry Whittington and the Department of Agriculture agreeing on a farm site for salt land reclamation comparison trials.
The Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Old, and the Director of Agriculture, Mr. Fitzpatrick visited Mr. Whittington's farm and inspected the salt land work which had been done.
Mr. Old said that he was impressed with the soil conservation and salt land control efforts.
The visit to Brookton had helped clarify the differences in approach to the salt problem and the theories on the salt encroachment causes.
The effectiveness of the two views could be compared in a practical manner by having trials conducted in close proximity, Mr. Old said.
