Water research group planned

(1977) Water research group planned. The West Australian, 15 April 1977. p. 15 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Article discusses the Minister for Water Supplies, Mr. O'Connor stating that a water resources council should be established soon.
Mr. O'Connor said that the Government was committed to setting up a water resources council that would give independent advice on forms of water use.
The council would undertake its own research and it would extend the work already being done by the Public Works and the Mines Departments in making a continuous inventory of surface and underground resources in the State.
The Government was aware that the terms of the scheme which provided loans to farmers who were not served by the comprehensive water supply scheme, were too restrictive to allow most farmers to take advantage of it.
The Premier, Sir Charles Court, had promised in February that the terms would be liberalised.
