Government does not lift grant

(1977) Government does not lift grant. Farmers Weekly, 30 June 1977. p. 2 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

The Federal Government's 1977 allocation to the Western Australian Grain Research Fund has been at a comparable level to last year despite a major lift in grower contributions.
The Fund chairman, Mr. H.S. Whittington said in past years, Western Australian growers had contributed to research on a voluntary basis and the total had been matched by the Federal Government.
A compulsory levy for research had been imposed and had lifted grower contributions to about $70,000, under the Single Grain Marketing Act.
The Minister for Primary Industry, Mr. Sinclair indicated that the Government's decision to depart from a matching money arrangement was an interim one, and that the subject of research grants is under review by the Industries Assistance Commission.
