Report described as sketchy review

(1977) Report described as sketchy review. The West Australian, 2 June 1977. p. 9 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

WAIT-Aid salt study feature outlines a report by two WAIT-Aid researchers on salinity control problems in the Brookton area being described by the Director of Agriculture, Mr. E.N. Fitzpatrick, as a sketchy review of a little of the Western Australian literature on salinity.
Mr. Fitzpatrick said that the report lacked a scientific or critical approach and contained many incorrect statements and assumptions.
The researchers, Dr. A.Q. Rathur, lecturer in geology at WAIT and Mr. R.H.A. Cochrane, a part-time lecturer in geochemistry, private consultant and researcher claimed that within two years they ought to be able to tell farmers how to solve their salt problems.
The researchers believed they would be able to solve salt problems in the Wellington dam, but needed $180,000 to continue the research work that commenced last October.
The WAIT-Aid programme was funded partly by the Farmers' Union and partly by the WAIT environmental study group.
