Summary

Article discusses where the State Government has been called on to provide assistance to farmers who cannot pay for reclaiming salt land.
National Country Party member, Mr. W.R. McPharlin told the Legislative Assembly that salt encroachment was a very serious problem that was getting worse every year.
The affected area was scattered over a wide area from north of Geraldton to Lake Grace and Lake King through to Wellington Dam.
Mr. McPharlin said that the Agricultural Department had been trying to show the way to control salt encroachment.
A department publication gave a detailed of the method to control salt encroachment and what plants and grasses to use.
Mr. McPharlin attended a meeting of about 200 farmers in Quairading which was addressed by Mr. Harry Whittington of Brookton.
During the meeting a WISALTS committee was formed, and its objective was to discuss and incorporate the best methods of reclaiming salt lands and conserving water.
