Salt comment not correct

Smith, Smith, S.T. (1978) Salt comment not correct. The Countryman, 7 December 1978. p. 14 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Letter submitted by S.T. Smith, deputy Director of Agriculture addressing a story by Bob Burnett, 'Conflict on salt land reclamation intensifies' (The Countryman, November 23), which in his view was a well compiled article.
This article discusses the constructive presentation was clear and without prejudice, however one small paragraph requires comment as it is far from the truth.
The paragraph in question says that "a WISALTS member also claimed the problem of salt land treatment is hydrological and as the department had no hydrologists working on it, farmers' opinions were equally valid as those of the scientists'.
Mr. Smith says that this statement is untrue as the problem was identified as being hydrological as far back as 1924.
