Salt-lands system ignored in book

Zekulich, M. (1978) Salt-lands system ignored in book. The West Australian, 2 November 1978. p. 22 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Article discusses a new Agriculture Department handbook on salt-affected farmlands in Western Australia making no mention of a system of interceptor contour banks developed by a Brookton farmer, Mr. H.S. Whittington.
The book, "Salt Land and What To Do About It", recommends for moderate and severely affected areas grazing control, cultivation and then the planting of salt-tolerant plants.
In milder areas it suggests control of flooding and waterlogging and the use of barley cropping.
