Old rejects suggestion

(1978) Old rejects suggestion. The Countryman, 12 October 1978. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Parliament feature discusses the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Old, rejecting a suggestion that an all-party Parliamentary committee inspect the salinity trial on a Quairading farm.
Mr. T.H. Jones, a Labor MLA for Collie, made the suggestion and Mr. Old said he saw no advantage in having a Parliamentary committee inspect the site at this stage.
Mr. Old agreed that the Department of Agriculture had used the Dorakin well as an exhibit at a field day on Mr. Dan Keast's property to further substantiate the theory that the salinity encroachment problem was caused by saline water rising under pressure in subterranean aquifers.
