'The department's assessment is based on carefully conducted research and not on personality clashes'

Fitzpatrick, E.N. (1978) 'The department's assessment is based on carefully conducted research and not on personality clashes'. Farmer and Grazier, 7 September 1978. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Article piece from E.N. Fitzpatrick, Director of Agriculture, South Perth discusses an article, "Salt: the ranks close up", which says that the Agriculture Department is dubious about the system devised by Brookton farmer, Harry Whittington, and that it is known there is a history of personality clashes between Mr. Whittington and department heads.
Mr. Fitzpatrick continues with the Department of Agriculture's assessment of the scheme for salt control proposed by Mr. Whittington is based on documented scientific data and there is no possibility Mr. Whittington's techniques will have any significant impact on preventing the development of, or alleviating the salt problem on the vast majority of land affected by salinity in Western Australia.
The department will be stepping up its farmer education programme so that farmers are in a position to better understand the nature of the problem and the reasons why the Whittington techniques will not help overcome salinity.
