Abstract
F.E.Lab ASL1 Turin was born officially in September 2006 as laboratory dedicated to the forensic entomology; it is placed in the public Civic Mortuary of Turin. The aims of F.E.Lab are principally the following: − to assist in forensic cases (judicial cases and not) in which the insects are protagonist of the death scene; − to organize seminaries, for the deepening of the discipline, addressed to medico-legal and coroner staff and to police enforcements; − to study carrion entomofauna mainly in the north of Italy, being used real caseworks and practical experimentations. To date many statistical studies with regard to insect presence in various death scenes have been undertaken by F.E.Lab specialists. Moreover F.E.Lab is constant collaborating on true cases with doctors lawyers, tossicologists, antropologists, biologists and law enforcements in order to widen the knowledge of this field. The “hot spot” of the activity of the F.E.Lab is the entomologist prerogative in joining all the activities of the medical examiners (and of the law enforcement) both during the inspections and during the autopsies. In this way it is possible to realize a correct entomological sampling, to assist the medico-legal activities, to monitor and collect data on the regional carrion entomofauna and to establish a useful acquaintance exchange between experts. Within the upcoming plans for 2007, F.E.Lab is glad to announce the development of the PhD project entitled "Les insectes cadavériques de le première escouades (Diptera, Calliphoridae) du bassin méditerranéen: caractérisation morphologique et moléculaire" (Carrion insects of the first wave (Diptera, Calliphoridae) of the Mediterranean basin: morphological and molecular characterization) in partnership with the University of the Studies of Naples and the University of Kenitra (Moroc).
