Stormy Perillup meeting: Government under farmer fire on land clearing

Raymond, R. (1979) Stormy Perillup meeting: Government under farmer fire on land clearing. The Farmers Weekly, 1 February 1979. p. 1 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Two-page article discussing the meeting at Perillup where more than 300 hostile farmers from the Lower South West took the government to task on its land clearing legislation.
The Minister for Works, Mr. MacKinnon tried to explain the purpose of the legislation amid constant jeers and interruptions.
Earlier, by an unanimous vote, farmers condemned the government action and demanded a review of the legislation, regulations and guidelines within a month of the next sitting of Parliament.
Mr. MacKinnon admitted that the secrecy behind the legislation affecting farms in the Mundaring Weir, Arthur and Frankland River areas was due to the results of legislation relating to the Wellington catchment area.

This article contains four photographs, one portrait of Mr. Nick Webb; one portrait of Mr. Tom Knight, MLC South Province; a portrait of Mr. Tom Stephens, MLA Stirling and an image of the audience of angry farmers.
