'It's no wonder that the cause of the salinity problem has eluded scientists for so long'

Whittington, H.S. (1978) 'It's no wonder that the cause of the salinity problem has eluded scientists for so long'. Western Farmer and Grazier, 21 September 1978. p. 4 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Response from H.S. Whittington to Mr. E.N. Fitzpatrick's published letter of September 7.
Mr. Fitzpatrick says there is no possibility that Mr, Whittington's techniques will have any significant impact in preventing the development of or alleviating the salt problem on the vast majority of land affected by salinity.
The Collie Lions Club organised a salt land field day in Collie with about 130 people attending.
The field day included the inspection of many trial sites, with speakers from different participating departments giving talks on what was happening at that particular site.
At a demonstration at one site, the spokesman for the Public Works Department explained how two holes had been sunk, one to a depth of 15 metres and the other being a shallow hole with a depth of some one-plus metres.
The spokesman declared that there was no water in the shallow bore hole as the forest was using all the surface water and then declared that the deep bore hole had water at a level of 11 metres.
