It's a cancer say farmers

Collis, B. (1978) It's a cancer say farmers. Farmer and Grazier, 13 April 1978. p. 19 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

A field day was held at Badgebup, east of Katanning attended by 100 farmers to hear the views of ardent anti salt campaigner Harry Whittington. The field day was a sign of widespread support for Mr Whittington - the leading advocate of salt land reclamation. Farmers were told by the Badgebup-Rockwell Farmer's Union branch secretary Terry Noonan that it was time they became more involved in the development of wide-scale salt control. Farmers at the field day elected to form a local branch of WISALTS. Agriculture Department field officer David Stanton told farmers that the type of terrace farming WISALTS advocated was nothing new and if there were more department officers with Harry Whittington's practical farm experience they might also get as many people to a field day.

This article contains two images by Brad Collis: Terry Noonan with WISALTS committee heads, Laurie Adamson and Lloyd Richards; and a trees in the middle of an unaffected paddock that have been killed off by salinity.
